A&Z Engineering is currently leading an excellent team of consultants to develop the design of Improvements to Maplecrest Road for the City of Fort Wayne. The proposed improvements to the project corridor extend from Lake Avenue to East State Boulevard and include widening the roadway with additional travel and auxiliary turn lanes, pedestrian facilities on both sides of the roadway, and a variety of landscaping amenities. The necessity for the infrastructure improvements to this corridor is driven by the need for increased capacity and improved level of service through this corridor with the anticipated increased traffic following the completion of the Maplecrest Road Extension project currently under construction for Allen County between Lake Avenue and S.R. 930 in New Haven, Indiana.
The intention is to develop the corridor into a “boulevard style” complete street with facilities for all types of users including vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians. The design team is implementing a variety of context sensitive solutions to accomplish the infrastructure goals while allowing thorough consideration to the existing environment. The project is being funded with both local funds and federal surface transportation program funds administered through the Northeastern Regional Coordinating Council (NIRCC) and the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT).
